✦ Formation
✦ Growing in Faith
At Magdalene House, we believe that formation in the faith is a lifelong journey — not a program to complete, but a way of life to inhabit. We offer structured programs for those new to the faith, and ongoing formation for those who have been walking this path for years.
Our formation is rooted in the liturgical life of the Church. We believe that the best catechesis happens in the context of prayer, worship, and community — not only in the classroom. As an Open and Affirming congregation, our formation programs welcome people of all races, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and backgrounds. You do not need to be a certain kind of person to begin the journey.
✦ For Inquirers & Adults
For Inquirers, Catechumens & Those Deepening Their Faith
The adult catechumenate at Magdalene House is a guided journey through the Eastern Catholic tradition — its Scripture, Tradition, theology, and liturgical life. It is designed for those who are inquiring about the faith, those preparing for reception into the community, and those who wish to deepen their understanding of the Eastern Christian tradition.
Sessions are held regularly and cover topics including: the nature of the Church, the seven sacraments, the Divine Liturgy, the liturgical year, Eastern Catholic iconography, the theology of theosis, and the spiritual life. Formation is integrated with participation in the community's worship and life.

✦ For Children Ages 3–12
A Montessori-Inspired Atrium Program
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-inspired approach to religious formation for children ages 3–12, developed by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi. It takes place in a specially prepared environment called an atrium — a sacred space where children encounter God through Scripture, liturgy, and hands-on materials.
At Magdalene House, our CGS atrium is rooted in the Eastern Catholic tradition — incorporating icons, liturgical materials, and the rich symbolism of the Eastern rite. Children work with wooden figures of the Good Shepherd and his sheep, parable materials, and models of the liturgical space, entering into a contemplative relationship with God from the earliest years.
The program is offered in three levels: Level I (ages 3–6), Level II (ages 6–9), and Level III (ages 9–12). Children progress at their own pace, guided by trained catechists.
